Dear Business Leader:

You are cordially invited to the first annual Young Entrepreneurs Academy luncheon on June 14th, 2008 from 11:45 am until 2:00 p.m. at the University Center restaurant, California State University, Sacramento.  The Academy, sponsored by the Sacramento Black Chamber of Commerce and the Sacramento Observer newspaper, is completing its first year.  Fifteen high school and college students have completed a year-long intensive curriculum in financial literacy, critical thinking, and developing a business plan.  The formal sessions were supplemented with field trips to successful African American businesses.

The goal of the Academy is to cultivate young entrepreneurs and African American business leaders in the Sacramento region.  This luncheon is to honor these students for their hard work and dedication.  Your support for these students is critically important.  The tax deductible cost of the luncheon is $25.00.  Net proceeds will be applied to the YEA scholarship funds.  You may reference our tax ID of 95-4818928 when sending in your contributions.

The African American community is an important and vibrant part of the Sacramento economic, social and cultural landscape. The contribution of the African Americans community in the Sacramento region are historically documented. Central to sustaining these contributions is creating an infrastructure that builds economic vitality and promotes opportunities for future generations. Thus born . . . YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS ACADEMY.

GOALS:

  • Increase the number of African American Youth who can develop the economic capacities to succeed in creating and maintaining their own wealth.
  • Engage the businesses community to provide opportunities for participates of the Academy.
  • Create competent, caring and courageous business leaders.

Eligible Participants:
College/University students and high school students who are in the 11th or 12th grades. If selected into the Academy the student is required to attend a minimum of three of the four sessions Fall sessions.

Structure of the Academy:
The Young Entrepreneurs Academy will provide the students the theoretical and practical tools necessary to be successful in business.

Internships/Projects

Young Entrepreneurs participants will be closing the Achievement Gap and Creating a Culture of Wealth!
