SBCC in partnership with Sacramento State University, Sacramento city college and the Sacramento Observer graduated their first class of the Young Entrepreneurs Academy under the direction of SBCC Board member Dr. Eric Gravenberg. Thirteen young entrepreneurs received certificates of completion for their year long hard work and each received a scholarship for the Sacramento Black Chamber of Commerce. The training was designed by Dr. Gravenberg to supplement courses that provide basic business concepts and principles. Many of the students have been accepted at four year universities. The students presented a business plan to the audience discussing their plan to launch a web site dedicated to health, exercise and nutrition in the fall." One of the founders and former President/CEO of the Sacramento Black Chamber of Commerce, Richard Nelson, was so impressed with the YEA program that he pledged at the luncheon to increase each graduates scholarship by $50.00 each and pledged $5,000 to begin the next session in '08/09.
